Wal - Martians

One of the most important days in the history of Harrison was the day that the Wal-Mart Super Center moved in. It is THE store in town, and at any given moment about half of the denizens of Harrison can be found meandering amongst the aisles (well, maybe that's an exaggeration....). A few loyal Harrisonians introduced me to a new term for Wal-Mart addicts: Wal-Martians.

Harrison has actually had a place in its heart for WallyWorld for a long time as it was the location for the second Wal-Mart store; and from this humble setting, a chain monster was born.

The headquarters of Wal-Mart are actually situated in the city of Bentonville, Arkansas, which is about an hour and a half from Harrison. Since Wal-Mart is really the symbol of Western Retail, we felt it necessary to make our own Hajj to this Mecca of the retail world. Here is a lovely family photo in front of the very first Wal-Mart five and dime. It was truly a momentous occasion. The store has been converted into a quaint museum honoring the achievements of this business goliath.
